SALT PROTECTS, SALT PRESERVES, SALT REFLECTS THE LIGHT.

Salt is one of the main components of ancient alchemy and it is the foundation of what we today know as photography. Will it also become the protective membrane of our future?

Recently a group of scientists proposed to cover the atmosphere with salt, to let it reflect the sunlight so as to cool the earth. I use photographic processes to imagine this grand intervention in the atmosphere;

By covering a negative with salt and then exposing it to sunlight, the salt reflects the light. In the encounter between emulsion, salt and light, the photograph emerges - just as in the earliest days of photography, when the process was akin to alchemy and the salt print was the very first method to preserve an image on paper.

As chance and science collide, Morphine for Summertime becomes a materialization of a speculative future.
