What happens when making photographs 'with' the subject, rather than 'of' the subject?

The tree, Dracaena Draco produces a red resin that has been in use since ancient times as both varnish, medicine, incense and dye. I use that resin in the analogue printing processes of a single negative, printed over and over. As the organic material reacts with the chemicals, a new kind of photograph is created, where the pictorial conventions of the photograph is determined by the resin.
